Be careful with legionella

Last September there was an outbreak of legionella in a hotel in Salou. There has been one dead and six people were affected by this bacterium.

Legionella bacteria can be deadly for the most vulnerable: children, people over 50, smokers, people with kidney disease and diabetics, etc.

These bacteria need moisture to live and can not be passed from person to person, but is introduced into our body through the airways, implanted in the lungs. The disease causes very high fever, muscle pain, cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, and even vomiting and diarrhea.

As has been said before, this bacteria is introduced into our system by the airways through tiny particles of water, but where does it come from? It lives in water sources, especially in artificial water systems, such as ornamental fountains, humidifiers, air conditioners, cooling towers, etc.

It is important to treat water systems because we can prevent contagion of legionella in our facilities.
